GENERAL RESOURCES

The National Resource Center on LGBT Aging - A clearinghouse for information on all topics related to LGBT+ aging. Many practical and informative guides are available

AgeOptions' Guide to LGBT+ Aging - A very brief guide created for our clients and providers, this brief handout explains the basics and lists local, IL-specific and national resources.

SAGE (Service and Advocacy for GLBT Elders) - New York-based, but operating nationally, SAGE is the nation's oldest agency addressing the needs of LGBT older adults.


Inclusive Questions for Older Adults: A Practical Guide to Collecting Data on Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity - The National Resource Center on LGBT Aging offers practitioners tips and guidance on how to ask older adults questions related to LGBTQ+ status. 

​The Williams Institute at UCLA - Great source for data and demographics on LGBT+ populations throughout the United States, including aging LGBT+ populations. You can find IL-specific information on demographics and legal issues.

Older Adults at Center on Halsted

Test Positive Aware Network - TPAN serves People Living With HIV/AIDS (PLWH), including the Aging Positive program.

Proud to Thrive at the Center for Disability and Elder Law - Providing no-cost legal services to low- and moderate-income older adults throughout Cook County. 

Howard Brown Health's HEALE program is a comprehensive, 6-hour cultural competency training for nurses and other health care providers. 

​Affirm, a community clinic at Rush University Medical Center, focuses on inclusive health care, especially gender-affirming care. 

Praxis supports groups and workplaces through dialogue, skill-building & meaningful change. Utilizing a lens of anti-oppression, Praxis redefines group and organizational cultures so that people feel empowered to bring their full selves to the table.

TRANSGENDER ISSUES & ADVOCACY

FORGE - Advocacy for transgendered individuals, and training for professionals.

TransLine - A consultation service for medical professionals, including general overviews of trans* issues and case consultation services.

CAREGIVING

Caregiving in the LGBT Community - A thorough guide from SAGE and the National Resource Center on LGBT+ aging, which covers the basics of what caregiving is, who LGBT+ caregivers are, and how we can welcome them into our agencies.

AgeOptions' Fact + Resource Sheet on Caregiving in the LGBT+ Community - A quick introduction caregiving and Caregiver Resource Centers for the LGBT+ community and those seeking to provide resources to LGBT+ caregivers.

​Family Caregiving for Diverse Elders - A 'resource hub' from the Diverse Elders Coalition, offering resources and training for working with caregivers in the LGBT+ community and many ethnic/racial minorities.

INSURANCE/HEALTHCARE

Out2Enroll.org features FAQ's and guides to selecting a health insurance plan including helpful guides to which plans cover gender-affirming treatment.

HIV & AGING

Making the Aging Network HIV-Inclusive: A Practical Guide for Aging Services - This toolkit reframes HIV as a defining issue in aging, offering actionable guidance to help aging services create welcoming, safe, and affirming spaces for people aging with HIV. It includes practical steps to reduce stigma, build trust, and center lived experience. This guide covers everything from staff training to care coordination and community partnerships.
